There are plenty of things to do when visiting Cheshire. The City of Chester is one of Britain’s great heritage destinations. The walled city is brimming with amazing architecture as well as being an excellent centre for shopping. Why not take a walk around the Roman walls of the city. Chester Zoo is a major attraction in the city with more than 400 species of rare, exotic and endangered wildlife.
Quarry Bank Mill is also worth a visit, a cotton mill built in 1784 powered by Europe’s most powerful working waterwheel and surrounded by stunning gardens and the styal village which was built to accommodate the mill workers.
Why not take a boat tour along the River Dee. The National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port is a great day out; you can enjoy a boat trip through the industrial landscape, visit the blacksmith and explore the narrow boats.
Cheshire is also home to the Heck Green secret nuclear bunker. It was built in the 1950’s and declassified in 1993; it would have been the centre of Regional Government had nuclear war broken out.
Chester racecourse is, according to official records, the oldest fully functioning racecourse. Racing at Chester dates back to the early sixteenth century.
There are so many places to visit including; Chatsworth House, Cholmondeley Castle, Chester cathedral, The Roman Amphitheatre, to name but a few.
Chester also offers a wide choice of restaurants, including the Michelin star Simon Radley at The Grosvenor, Marco Pierre White steakhouse and grill, The Sticky Walnut or the Restaurant at Rookery Hall.
Cheshire makes a perfect destination for a hen party or a family break.
